Facing the crystal-clear waters of Bideford Bay, you’ll find a gorgeous beach that’s just perfect for surfers, swimmers, kayakers and paddle boarders. The main beach is surrounded by the lush green grasses of Northam Burrows Country Park and Pebble Ridge – all forming part of the breathtakingly beautiful North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Here, you can enjoy long stretches of golden sands ideal for sunbathing and surfing with clearly defined areas for each. You can even hire equipment and book training sessions in the area. All dogs are welcome too – just be sure to keep an eye on any possible summer restrictions near the beach. There are plenty of other options for entertainment including go-karts, mini-golf and bowling as well as nearby eateries, hotels, restaurants and tearooms to suit all budgets. There’s also car parking spaces for those with disabilities and free public toilets, including one at the recently added visitor centre. As for the waves, they can be quite intense and the tide rises very quickly – when the tide is low, the average adult can still reach waist height in the water. In summer, lifeguards are stationed at the beach so you can swim or surf with extra peace of mind. If you’d rather not, why not have a look out for the creatures you can spot in the rock pools such as shrimps, fish and crabs?
