St Mary’s Bay is an idyllic cove located nearby the quaint town of Brixham. This hidden gem stretches along the renowned 22-mile stretch of shoreline along the English Riviera and is well-known for its temperate climate and picturesque coastline views. The beach largely consists of sandy shores, with some shingle and rocks, making it the perfect spot for swimming and snorkelling (please note, however, that there is no lifeguard service). Fossil hunters will also be delighted to hear the beach lies within the Berry Head to Sharkham SSSI – however, please keep in mind it is unlawful to collect fossils from the cliff without the written consent of Natural England. The beach is accessible from the pay and display car park at Sharkham Point, at the end of St Mary’s Road, via a small path and some steps – making disabled access a bit tricky. Sweeping vistas of the ocean can be seen from the coastal path leading from Sharkham Point, and from the nearby Berry Head National Nature Reserve. Don’t forget to pop into the centre of Brixham, where you will be spoilt for choice with an array of shops, pubs and eateries.
