Sitting at the base of a sloping cliff, with its beautiful sandy shoreline and surrounding boulders, the secluded beach of Selworthy offers a breathtaking sight! Nestled away along the West Somerset coast, it doesn’t come without challenges: it’s inaccessible and only suitable for those undaunted by a good climb, or well-versed with tide timetables. It’s easily earned its nickname ‘secret beach’, lying off the South West Coast Path and rarely sees visitors. It’s important to note that Selworthy is a potentially dangerous location due to its strong currents – so swimming is best avoided! If you’re feeling intrepid, there are two routes you can take to the beach. If the tide is low, you can head for Hurlstone Point and a cave known as Gull Hole. If not, the coast path can take you as far as the ruined coastguard lookout, where you may find a rope to assist you with your descent. Once you reach the beach however, you’ll be rewarded with an incredible, tranquil atmosphere.
