Situated on the Devon and Somerset border sits the beautiful Glenthorne Beach – an oft deserted stretch of coastline that’s more likely to be empty than occupied. It is set against a backdrop of wooded cliffs that were once part of an ancient country estate. A number of features from its past still remain, including a ruined boathouse, trout pool, and lime kilns. Alongside these relics of days gone by, the scenery offers an array of natural beauty, from cascading waterfalls to caves and interesting rock formations. The beach itself features rock-sized pebbles, creating a challenging experience for those who like to explore the shoreline. The high point of a visit to Glenthorne, however, would have to be the stunning walk from the car park in County Gate, down 1,000 feet to the beach below.
