Budleigh Salterton beach is one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline you’ll find anywhere. With its two kilometres of iconic pebbles, it marks the start of Devon’s magnificent Jurassic Coastline. It’s particularly popular with families due to its calm, clean waters that are perfect for bathing – but please be aware that algal blooms can sometimes occur. At the beach you’ll find not one but three beach cafes, beach huts for hire and all the amenities of the nearby town of Budleigh Salterton. To the west, you’ll find the majestic red cliffs that date all the way back to the Triassic period. Please take extra care when exploring this area of the beach, especially if you have dogs or small children with you. At the more popular eastern end there’s the Otter Estuary and its nature reserve. With its well-presented visitors centre and two viewing platforms, you can perhaps enjoy some saltmarsh vegetation as well as a variety of wintering wildfowl.
