Set in a peaceful wooded valley, the beach at Buck’s Mill is surprisingly wide, stretching from Westward Ho! to Clovelly. The area is said to have been established by survivors of a Spanish galleon wreck who made it their home, and the community remains largely untouched by modern tourism even to this day. On the lowest of tides you might find some sand, as well as a steady patch of reef, known as ‘the Gut’, which was created when fishing boats needed a safe passage. Besides the charming village and gorgeous woodland walks, of course, the biggest attraction would have to be the beautiful waterfall cascading down the cliffs. Whether you’re looking for adventure or just a great day in nature, you’ll also find surfers here when the conditions are right – though, of course, the waves are only for the most experienced!
